2018 Treemendous School Makeover finalists announced

07/08/2017

Our ten finalists for 2018 Treemendous School Makeovers have been announced!

A huge thank you to all the staff and students across New Zealand who worked incredibly hard on their applications, it was truly inspiring to see all the passion for the environment.

Judging was extremely tough and it was fantastic to see students taking such an active role in developing plans to immerse and use the outdoors as part of their education.

Congratulations and good luck to the following schools – we can’t wait to see how you grow your ideas in stage two of the application process.

Anchorage Park Primary School (Auckland), Beckenham School (Christchurch), Clifton School (Bulls), Howick Primary (Auckland), Kerikeri Primary School (Northland), Rangeview Intermediate School (Auckland), St Leonard’s School (Dunedin), Tahatai Coast School (Bay of Plenty), Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Manawatu (Palmerston North), Trentham School (Wellington).

The final winning four schools will be announced here end of November – so stay tuned!

The four winners will each receive $10,000 towards a Treemendous outdoor classroom and the six runner-up’s will receive $500 for their school. The Treemendous team will work closely with the winning schools to help them develop their ideas and green dreams, while also ensuring a suitable planting programme is in place for the environment.

Did you just miss out this year? We thank you for your time and effort that you put into your application and we encourage you to keep your school’s passion for the environment alive and re-apply next year.

Alternatively, you may also like to apply directly to the Mazda Foundation for funding for your project. The Foundation carries out three funding rounds each year (March, June and September) and provides support to a wide range of community projects, schools and individuals.

Over the past ten years The Mazda Foundation and Project Crimson have worked with 40 schools around New Zealand to create remarkable outdoor classrooms through the planting of native trees.

The makeovers bring communities and hundreds of volunteers together to enhance the outdoor learning environments for keen students from a wide variety of primary and intermediate schools.

We upload photos to the our Facebook page and videos on the YouTube channel following the events! Make sure to have a look at the incredible learning spaces we have created at the previous winning schools!
