Sian brings a deep passion for strengthening Aotearoa’s biodiversity to her new role as Taranaki’s Regional Advisor for Trees That Count.
Sian has a Bachelor of Science majoring in Ecology and Zoology, and currently works part-time as the Egmont National Park project coordinator, managing volunteers and contractors while overseeing a large-scale survey of kiwi in the National Park.
Her previous work as a Biodiversity Ranger for Department of Conservation required her to draw on an extensive skill set including nursery management, monitoring and health checks of threatened species, project management of effective weed control programmes and plant propagation.
“I’m really looking forward to working with different community groups in the area, and hopefully being able to offer advice and support to help them take their projects to the next level,” Sian said.
When she’s not working with nature, she’s relaxing in it. You’ll often find her unwinding with family hiking in the national park surrounding Taranaki’s famous Mt. Egmont.
