Treemendous first sprung from the ground in 2008. Since then, with Treemendous sponsor the Mazda Foundation, we have worked with 31 schools from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South to create amazing native gardens and outdoor classrooms.
Four New Zealand schools are chosen each year to have their grounds improved and enhanced through the implementation of their ideas, be it a lizard garden, a substantial native planting, creation of our outdoor classroom, creating bird habitats or all of these and more! It’s a prize worth $10,000 and all New Zealand primary and intermediate schools can apply. Such is the success of Treemendous that it was a finalist in the 2015 Green Ribbon Awards.
In 2016 we visited St Joseph’s Catholic School in Temuka, Wyndham Primary School in Southland, Discovery School in Whitby and Argyll East School in Hawke’s Bay. You can read more about their makeovers here.
For the first time in the 10-year history of the Treemendous School Makeover programme, five lucky schools will each receive $10,000 to create their own outdoor education space in 2017.
Reporoa School (Bay of Plenty), Nelson Central School (Nelson), Houghton Valley School (Wellington), Leithfield School (Canterbury) and Alexandra Primary School (Otago) will each be transformed in 2017 by the Treemendous team with a native tree planting makeover. We can’t wait to share their stories with you throughout the year.
